3 Myths About Workplace EV Charging Busted

With automakers around the world vying to maximize the value proposition of their respective electric vehicles (EVs), cars that don’t burn fossil fuels are becoming more and more mainstream. However, there are still some myths surrounding the EV ecosystem which are preventing organizations from investing in this green technology. This post aims to bust some common misconceptions associated with workplace EV charging.

Not enough EV drivers

One of the major reasons why corporates shy away from investing in commercial EV charging stations is that they believe there simply aren’t enough employees interested in electric vehicles to make the purchase worthwhile. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Many people put off their EV buying plans simply because of a lack of charging infrastructure. Even then, 2017 was a record year for EV car sales, with close to 200,000 electric vehicles being sold in the United States alone. The approach employers should be following is: ‘Build it, and they will come’.

Charging EVs takes too long

While this may have been true for Level 1 car chargers, Level 2 commercial EV charging stations like EV Meter should put this concern to rest. Charging through a 110-250 VAC, EV Meter take only 4-5 hours to fill a 100-mile battery from the ground up. But since EV drivers rarely let the battery drop to zero, the effective charging time is reduced to 2 hours per vehicle on an average. What’s more, EV Meter comes with two power outlets, allowing the device to charge two electric cars simultaneously. Which means, more employees can avail the benefits of the charging station installed at the workplace.

Extreme weather will cause damage

If your workplace is situated in a place prone to extreme weather, you could be remiss for believing that a charging station installed in an open parking space would only last so long. Commercial EV charging stations like EV Meter come IP55 weather- and waterproof rating and a wide operating temperature range of -25°C to +55°C. This means, come hail or high water, your EV charging station will continue to perform efficiently.

So, we hope this post cleared up some of the confusion you may have had about workplace charging stations. If you have any questions about installing EV charging stations at your workplace, contact us here.
